The Canterbury Jockey Club’s autumn meeting will be opened tomorrow, when the Great Easter Handicap, Champagne Stakes and the Sockburn Handicap will be the main events on a well-lilled programme. Indications point to at least 15 horses contesting the Great Easter Handicap. and with several having recent good race and track form to their credit the issue appears very open. The only scratchings over the weekend were Master Baron (Champagne Stakes), Night Fighter (Papanui Hack Handicap) and Great Light (Courtenay Handicap). Though the track dried out on Friday and yesterday, showers last night and again today will leave the surface in a soft condition, and the going will be holding, but not actually heavy.
