RINK WINS FEILDING CUP

Sprint To Lady Acora

(By Telegraph—From St. Simon.) FEILDING, April 8. After a night of very heavy rain, the Feililiug Jockey Club was favoured w th a line day for the opening of its Laster meeting, and the track, though easy, was in surprisingly good order considering the soaking it had received. Rink won the Feilding Cup in a close contest witli Bunsby, and the open sprint event went to Lady Acora, who ran down Sterling Lad on the post and beat him a bead. The fields in these two races were small, but iu all others were of good size and provided the huge crowd with an entertaining day’s sport. The totalizator handled £54,618, compared with, £41,816 on the first day last year, an increase of £9862. Making bis first appearance as a hurdler Te Kawiti outstayed the favourite, Red Glare, in the Kawa Kawa Hurdles. Red Glare led most of the way, but Tc Kawiti ran him down on the flat from the last fence. Imperium, who moved up from the half-mile, was five lengths away third and Light Fair beat the others. Young Charles and Taane Pango never appeared likely to get near the leaders. The Maiden Stakes was run in two divisions. In the first Lord Darnley won easily. He followed Ever Aussie to the turn, where he took over and from that stage was a comfortable winner from Day Lighting, who was always prominent. Rika was always about third or fourth and finished third, with Hulabaloo next after being back early and running very wide on the turn. There was a close fiuish iu the second division, won by Tumere from Palanui and Flying Tor. Tumere (Bulaudsbar—Black Cat) was having her first start, and though she ran greenly she was always going like a winner and held on to beat Palanui and Flying Tor, who followed her into the straight. Dawn Flight and Golden Tide did best of the beaten horses. Golden Tide making up a lot of ground.

Rink Won the Feilding Cup tn a close finish with Bunsby. Nighean was left to make all the pace and was followed by Rink, Alethea, Nightray, Peter’s Choice and Bunsby for 11 furlongs, where Bunsby commenced a forward move. Rink took over as soou as they reached the straight, and he ran on solidly to hold off a late run from Bunsby, who failed by a head. Alethea, who had the run of the race, could not improve in the last furlong and was a length and a quarter away third. There was a gap to Nighean, who just beat the other two runners. Mangurakau, a close relative to Round Up, and other good gallopers, put up a good performance to win the Taonui Nursery Handicap for he drifted from a good position on the turn and then had to make up ground when the pressure was on. Aiderman, from No. 18, got to the front at the end of a furlong, and showed the way to the straight to Master Ted. Theiolyn, Mangurakau, Sival (drifting back), Delinquent And Intense. Master Ted had Aiderman’s measure soon after turning for home, but he in turn was mu down by Mangurakau, who won by a head. Alderman was a short length away third, and Theiolyn was fourth, with Delinquent, Kuri, Lady Bev, Stoney Broke and Sival next. Matador, who has recovered from his injuries, was not produced as a suitable rider could not be engaged. He will compete on Monday. Sterling Lad tried to win the Mangaone Handicap all the way, and Killeymoon went with him to the straight, but soon dropped out. Lady Acora coming on to run Sterling Lad down and beut him >bv a bead. Prince Plato, who drifted back to hist at the half-mile, came on again to run third well clear of Killeymoon. whq iiulled up badly. Langue d’Or, with the advantage of a slb. allowance, outclassed the field in the Onepubi Hack Handicap for apprentice riders. He trailed Financial to the straight then drew away to win easily. Financial was just as easily second from Phoenix, who was third in most of the running, and Aristocrat came on to head Social Climber for fourth. Blairlehliurn led early, but faded out and finished last. ■ Neglected in the betting after one failure, Omahlna was at false odds to wiu the Onga Handicap, in which she outclassed the field. She quickly got to the front and from the half-mile was always three lengths clear and won by that margin. Latin Bay. Broielield, Vera Lynn, Farcical, Donegal Bay and Almiiza were prominent in the bunch which chased Omahlna, and Broielield mid Lutin Bay drew oijv to fight out second place, which .went to Broielield by half a length. Chef d’Oeuvro took fourth ahead of Farcical. Solver, Donegal Bay. Sea Quex and Alinaza Black Plato and Pur Avion, both at prod prices, paid the dividends in the Halcoinbe Handicap. Plato Lad led along the back from Lady Spiral. Fox Cover, Alchemy. Spirit, Black Plato ; Par Avion, Blue Border and Vivid Night. Black Plato moved up to take charge as they entered the straight, and he drew out to wiu easily by two lengths from Par Avion, who finished well along the rails to head Spirit on the post. Plato Lad was fourth, and Happy Ending, Abdicate, Alchemy and Fox Cover next. The favourite. Lady Spiral, faded out at the distance.
