TODAY’S RAG DRIVE

800 Wellington Guides To Assist Eight hundred Girl Guides, the average age of whom is 13, are expected to take port in ' today’s rag collection in Wellington and Lower Hutt. This collection is part of a Dominion-wide drive for clean rags to be used by the services being conducted throughout New Zealand, by the Girl Guides’ Association. Guides in Wellington hope today to exceed last year’s collection. , This is the fourth time the Girl Guides have conducted the drive, and so arrangements were easily made. The city and suburban areas are divided into sections, and the guide company nearest an area will take charge of it. Each house will be visited, and it will greatly assist the girls if householders will have their clean rags parcelled up and left at the gate this morning. Guide leaders will be on the spot to direct the children. 'As large numbers of parcels are gathered they will be taken to a key position, collected by car and deposited at a main depot till the Army authorities claim them. . . The first time the drive was conducted all sorts of weird things found, their way into the parcels, including furs, corsets, shoes and hats. On the other hand, really good sheets and pyjamas were contributed. However, the public knows now just what is needed, and useless articles are not sent in. Last year’s drive specially was notable for its good, clean rags. AVellington province will be well served in today’s collection, as there are l&OO guides in this area.
