Jail Hunger Strike Ends LONDON, March 23, The hunger strike by members of the Irish Republican Army at Belfast Gaol ended this afternoon, when eight men took f °llugh McAteer, so-called I.R.A. chief of staff, led the strike, which began on February 22 for “political concessions in the prison conditions.” McAteer. and two others were admitted to hospital a few days ago. Today was McAteer s thirtieth day of hunger striking. £ tree others began at the same time, and tliere were at one time 28 hunger strikers. The majority began eating several days ago. —
