Of the two spacious homes which were acquired last year by the W.D.11.U. : > s holiday places where tired farmers wives could enjoy a rest, one will open it® doors on Friday this week. Both houses are in the South Island, and that in xs elson, “Melrose,” is the first to be ready for occupation. The other is ‘To Kitiroa,” in Waimate, which will not be open for some time yet. The North Islaini W.D.F.U. rest home is situated near Palmerston North aud has proved of great value as a holiday and rest centre for countrywomen. The oflicial opening of the Melrose house will not take place till late in March, due to the travel restrictions, but in the meantime 10 women at a time will be arriving to enjoy its hospitality and its beautiful surroundings of flower gardens, walks and terraced lawns. The home formerly belonged to Colonel Noel Adams, Clevedon, and Mrs. Adams, who gave it to the W.D.F.U., of which organization Mrs. Adams is an immediate past president. A former matron of one of the houses at Nelson College, Miss Olive Wells, is in charge at Melrose.
