Loss Of Empress Of Canada
Announced (Received February 20, 10 p.m.) VANCOUVER, February 19. It is officially announced that the liner Empress of Canada was torpedoed and sunk off Freetown, West Africa, last year. Four hundred lives were lost, most of which were the victims of sharks. The Canadian Press says that an Italian communique claimed that an Italian submarine sank the Empress of Canada on March 15, 1943, but the loss was confirmed for the first time today.
