President Kalinin announced that General Eisenhower, .supreme commander of the Allied invasion forces, has been awarded the highest Soviet military award, the Order of Suvorov, “for outstanding successes in the direction of troops and in carrying out landing and battle operations of the British find American armed forces in North Africa and Italy against the common enemy of Soviet Union and the United States.’’ Lieut.General Spattz, commander-in-chief of the Allied strategic bombing forces from Britain. Lient.-General Eaker. Allied air commander-in-chief, Mediterranean. and Major-General Anderson. former commander of the First Army, receive lesser awards. Moscow radio announced that Admiral Sir Bruce Fraser has been awarded the Order of Suvorov First Class, for his successful action in bringing a convoy to Russia .as a result of which the Scharnhorst was sun!:. The Order of Suvorov, First Class, was also awarded to Admiral Sir John Tovey, commander-in-chief British Home Fleet, General Alexander, commander of the Allied forces in Italy, and Air Chief Marshal Sir Arthur Harris. chief of the Bomber Command, for outstanding military operations and distinguished leadership in the war against the common enemy.
