Dissatisfaction At Meat Works
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) INVFRCARGIDL, February 19. Dissatisfaction over tobacco supplies among employees of the Southland Frozen Meat Company’s works at Mataura resulted in u slop-work meeting at one o’clock this afternoon. It lasted for about one and a half hours, and the decision reached was tn await the arrival of expected consignments. The trouble bad been simmering for six weeks. Meetings had been held to discuss the position, and representations had been made to the Minister of Supply and other responsible agencies. According tn n member of the union the position bud shown little improvement, but arrangements had been made for the men to register and for a sufficient supply to be forwarded to meet the needs of the workers. The influx of travelling butchers and other seasonal workers had exhausted the supplies, and this was largely responsible for the 'present position, 'idle trouble had been acccntuatecl by- a hold-up in shipping and the late arrival of a vessel.
