E.S. And A. Bank As already reported by cablegram, the accounts of the E.,S. and A. Bank (London), for the year ended Juno 30, snowcu an increase in net profit to £144,355. and the directors recommend a final dividend of 31 per cent., subject' to United Kingdom tax,'making 6 per cent, for the year (unchanged). The balance-sheet and the “n> nual report of the chairman, Mr. S. M. Ward, now to hand, show that tne reserve fund standing at £1,785,000. has been increased by £15,000. Perpetual debenture stocks have been reduced by £11,833. Deposits at interest, current accounts bills pavable, and other liabilities have increased'by £6,887.044 to £54.356.988. The increase is attributed to further expansion of credit caused by Australian Government wartime expenditure. An increase in advances by £920,210-to £27,547,423 is considered satisfactory inasmuch as advances may only be granted subject to conditions approved by the. Commonwealth Bank. The report ’states that the ratio of 'current assets to demaud and time liabilities is 12/9 in the pound. The interim dividend was subject to United Kingdom income tax at the. rate of 7/- in the pounu, and the final at 6/3 in the pound, after allowance is made in each case for relief in respect of Dominion income tax. Standard Insurance Co. The Standard Insurance Co., Ltd., advises that transfer books will bo closed from February 22 to March 6, inclusive, in connexion with the dividend for the halfyear ending December 31 of 1/3 per share, "which is payable on March 6.
