COMMITTEE REPORT
Pay-As-You-Earn Taxation
(Received February 17, 10.45 p.m.) CANBERRA, February 17. The report of the Federal Parliamentary Committee on the pay-as-you-earn taxation will be tabled in the House of Representatives this week. As foreshadowed, the committee recommends that “instalment deductions paid by emnloyees from April 1 to June 30 next should be retained by the Government. The committee takes the view th. with this retention there will be a wi ing out of 75 per eent. of the taxati that would otherwise have been collect by the Government for one financial year. Where taxpayers ore non-employees, the •committee recommends that for the next 'three financial years they should pay an additional 8 1-3 per cent, tax to prevent them being given more favourable treatment than salary and wage-earners. The recommendations made by the. committee apply to all individual income earners, irrespective of sources of supply, but do -not apply to companies.
