CIVILIAN CLOTHING
Plans For Elimination Of Shortages Elimination of serious shortages of essential civilian garments, together with a suggested production programme is the main object to be sought at a meeting of the New Zealand Garment Control Council in Wellington today. Group discussions have been held already this week by members of clothing manufacturers’ federations, who are on the Garment Control Council, the personnel of which includes representatives of the Controller of Manpower and the Factory Controller. Meetings have been held of the executives of the New Zealand Women’s and Girls’ Outerware Clothing Federation, the New Zealand Shirt and Pyjama Manufacturers’ Association, the New Zealand Underwear Manufacturers’ Association, the New Zealand Knitted Outerwear Manufacturers’ Association, and the New Zealand Men’s aud Boys’ Clothing Manufacturers’ Association.
These meetings Y’ere preliminary to the conference of the Garment Control Council, which will discuss essential production of civilian items in short supply, in accordance with a list drawn up by the nianufacturers’ anc. the retailers’ associations, the Ratioi ing Controller, and the Ministry of Supply. Work preliminary to this conference has been carried out. by the clothing federations. dealing with manpower requirements, the control of prices, in connexion with representatives of the Price Tribunal, and discussions have been held with the' Standards Institute relating to the simplified procedure schedule.
