NO SHORT CUTS TO VICTORY
General MacArthur’s View LONDON, February 16. A few hours after he had declared that the Solomons campaign was almost completed, General MacArthur told Press correspondents; “Japan cannot be beaten by blockade and bombing alone. We must defeat Japan’s armies, which are her strongest military element. This can only be done by large ground forces. “It is useless and misleading to talk of short cuts to victory. An essential to victory is a united and well-balanced command. We delude ourselves if we think otherwise,” he added.
