REHABILITATION IN SCOTLAND
Plan To Build 500,000 Houses
Some idea of the plans being made lor rehabilitation after the war by the authorities in Scotland is given by Mr. J. Lockie, county clerk of Ayr, in a letter to his father,- Mr. IL IL Lockie. Khan dallab. Before leaving New Zealand Jlr. J. Lockie was assistant-city solicitor in Wellington. . “While we still concentrate on the major job of the day, the winning of ths war, we are able to give some thought, to the tasks we shall have to tackle when the war is over,” he writes. “AH the works we had in hand in 1939, and which had to be discontinued at that time, will be taken up again. I have, been appointed to two Scottish committees —the housing advisory committee, which is planning to build about half a million houses in Scotland, and the farm buildings committee, which is charged with the duty of preparing model plan? for farm buildings after the war. Till work is very interesting, but lakes a lot of time, much of which is spent in travelling. Most of the meetings arc held in Edinburgh, but recently we travelled to Manchester, Liverpool, and Loudon Jo gather evidence,”
