Appointments Approved
(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY. February 13. His Majesty the King has approved the following appointments, states the Wa r Office : — ■ „ . , To be Commander-in-Chief. Iran and Iraq Command, Lieutenant-General Sir Arthur Smith. Commander-in-Chief, Eastern Command, Lieutenant-General Sir Kenneth Anderson. Commander-in-Chief, Southern Command, Lieutenant-General W. D. Morgan. . Commander-in-Chief, London district, Lieutenant-General Sir Henry Lloyd.
Lieutenant-General Sir Arthur Smith was Chief of the General Staff in the Middle East tn 1940, and has been G.0.C., London district, since 1942. Lieutenant-General Sir Kenneth Anderaon was G.0.C.. Eastern Command, in 1942, but'in November of that year became G.O.C. ot the First Army in North Africa. General Anderson did much to' co-ordinate the work of the Home Guard with the Field Army, and the anti-invasion preparations he made in the Eastern Command were described as of. the most complete character. At the beginning of the war General Anderson Was at the head of a regular infantry brigade, but he was later promoted atid took part in the retreat from Dunkirk. Lieutenant-General Morgan is a Royal Artillery officer and has been a commander since 1941. '
