COMFORTS SUPPLIED

. Men returning from overseas, servicemen in hospital and patients at Porirua Hospital have been supplied with a variety of comforts .during the last twomonthly period by the Wellington provincial committee of the Joint Council of the Order of St. John and the New Zealand- (Red Cross Society. Cigarettes, tobacco, chocolates, sweets, stationery, Christmas parcels, books and flowers for the wards have been forwarded. All the hospitals under the jurisdiction of the committee were supplied with Christmas parcels for, each military patient, and some of the recipients and the medical officers wrote expressing (their ithan'ks for this gesture, which was much appreciated. Hospital visitors have been attending weekly at the.' hospitals and distributing comforts; ' trains and boats were met ou several occasions and cigarettes and other things distributed and numerous requisitions from the hospitals under the committee’s care have been, supplied.

Dressmaking Class. Many inquiries have been made regarding the dressmaking class conducted by the Y.W.C.A., and many of last year’s pupils and intending pupils will be .'-lad to hear that the new season will commence at the beginning of March. Mrs. L. M. Baker, formerly principal of Druleigh College, will again be the teacher.

A beautiful coffee service of half a dozen cups aud saucers and plates, with coffee pot, sugar and cream fit into a .satin-lined case. The china is white, 'with a band round the top of each piece, having a small floral design on a finely dotted black and white ground. The cups are without handles, but each one fits into a pierced solid silver sheath with a silver handle. A very handsome rose bowl is heavy cut crystal with a silver base. Another lovely crystal piece is a wide-mouthed, basket-shaped vase, aud a crystal saldd bowl Is also attractive. A smart cocktail set has six small goblets and a shaker, and is amber glass with an engraved design on each piece. Two very elegant decanters, tall and slim, are lightly engraved.
