HASTINGS, February 9. Lambs showing condition again met with a very strong sale today at Stortford Lodge, when a good selection was on offer. Because meat rationing may be introduced In the near future, the market for wethers showed a drop of fully 1/- a head. Breeding ewes made up fully one half of the yarding of more than 10,000 head. The market for sheep with good mouths was a shade easier than that in the ' recent special ew e fairs. Ewes with low mouths were slow to quit. Numbers of the main lines were from the Gisborne district. Extra good woolly lambs made frbm 19/to 20/1, with others, late lambs oft high country and very sound, making from 16/9 to 18/-. Extra good Down cross lambs topped the selling at 21/1. Forward twotooth wethers brought 22/6, others in store condition making down to 20/-. Good five and six-year ewes from Gisborne brought 21/-, others ranging from 17/6 to 19/o. Medium two-tooth ewes were unsold at 25/6, others, smaller, making 24/-. Fairmouthed aged store ewes made 11/6. Fiveyear ewes showing a useful mouth but mixed in the wool made 18/7. Late-shorn two-tooth wethers in store condition made “I/-. Roomv five-year-old ewes m heavy condition sold at 20/1 and 186 fairly-grown shorn lambs doing well made 16/10. A cautious attitude was adopted by butchers, with a result that the market for beef was quiet and selling for most of the yarding was hard. Butchers are endeavouring to avoid being caught, wirh large supplies on hand when rationing is introduced. The yarding was 140 head. Good average quality ox pens comprised the three main entries, prime bullocks on account of W. H. Sissons making from £l5/8/6 to £l5/16/- and another line making t<> £l5/3/6, with a third offering £l4 8/6 for 14. Prime heifers from The llasliPOO! brought £lO/16/-.
