REHABILITATION HELP

Servicemen mid servicewomen demobilized from tbe New Zealand Forces to the cud of November last totalled 33.093. according to figures issued yesterday by the Alinister of Rehabilitation, Major Skinner. He said that of this total 15,628 had returned from overseas and that the balance of 17,470 had been on home service. The Minister also gave the following particulars of tbe rehabilitation position of these personnel:— Home V:

The Minister said that the totallyblinded ex-servicemen from this war so far numbered eight, and the partiallyblinded 29. making a total of 37. He said that temporary arrangements had been completed to transfer tbe totally blinded as well as the partially blinded requiring training in Braille and. occupational employment from the Jubilee Institute for the Blind tp the Fairview Convalescent Home. Auckland. In addition, arrangements bad been made, for the necessary training equipment and an officer from the Jubilee Institute for the Blind to enable the work to be continued at the Fairview Convalescent Home. The total number of amputees_ from the present war to date was 215. Of these, when the report was prepared, 133 had-hoen fitted with artificial lambs, 50 were in the process of being measured and fitted, and 32 were still undergoing treatment or’ recuperating and were not ready for- fitting.
