BRIBERY TRIAL OPENED

LONDON, January 18. The trial has started at the Central Criminal Court of the former Aucklander. Rex Morley Hoyes, managing director of Cunliffe Owen Aircraft, Ltd., who is accused of making gifts of £lOO3 and £2OO sterling to Harold Lavers Armstrong, of the Ministry of Aircraft Production, and Henry George Bloss, who .were summoned for accepting these gifts. The three defendants, who are on bail, pleaded not guilty. 'Sir Patrick Hastings, K.C„ and Mr. E. R. Richardson are appearing for Hoyes.
Hoyes went to London as a representstlve of Matiihina Forests in 1931. He married Liidy Waleriin. Armstrong was director-general and Bloss doputy-dircotoi'-goiieral of aircraft production at the time of the alleged offences.
