Tasman Airways Official Resigns
The resignation of the chief engineer of Tasman Empire Airways, Limited, since the inception bf the service, Mr. 11. O. Houchen, has been received, as he has accepted an important position With the British Overseas Airways Corporation in England. Mr. Houchen will he succeeded by Wing Commander G. B. Bolt, who is well known in New Zealand aviation circles. Tlie board of Tasman Empire Airways, Limited, has expressed to Mr. Houchen its appreciation of the valuable services rendered by him during his term with the company. Mr. Bolt is a pioneer of flying m New Zealand. In 1912 he and his brother built a glider in Christchurch, and he flew it. He learnt to fly powered machines, and served as instructor at the Walsh Flying School at Kohimarama, Auckland. In 1919 he flew the first air mail in New Zealand, from Auckland to Dargaville, using a seaplane which was one of the first made by the now famous Boeing works. Later he became pilot-engineer to the Wellington Aero Club. In 1935 he joined Cook Strait Airways as its chief pilot and technical adviser.
