SWEDEN INDIGNANT
Ribbentrop’s Hectoring
LONDON, December 5. Some observers in Stockholm are speculating about the possibility of Herr Hitler taking armed action against, Sweden following Herr von Ribbentrop’s curt reply to the Swedish protest against the arrest of the Oslo University students, says Reuter’s Stockholm correspondent. Ribbentrop is reported to have asked the Swedish Charge d’Affaires in Berlin to call on him and told him that Germany refused to discuss the arrests with Sweden, who must in future refrain from intervening in German-Norwegian questions.
Meanwhile the Swedish Tress is undismayed by Ribbentrop’s reply and continues to press- the demand that the students shall not be deported to Germany. The “Social Demokraten” , declares: “Sweden will not abandon her viewpoint. Ribbentrop is mistaken if he thinks his challenging tone has succeeded in changing Sweden's opinion. _ Norway is our brother land, and we will not allow ourselves to be ordered from this union.” , . University demonstrations occurred m Sweden and Switzerland today against the arrest by the Germans of the Oslo students, says Reuter. Students at Upsala University in mass demonstrated and professors and students at Zurich University held a protest meeting. Basle University has planned a demonstration for Tuesday. Berlin radio said that Norwegian security police have ordered all Oslo students to return to their homes and report to the police. Students are. warned not to leave their home areas without a permit
