GUERRILLA MISSION REBUFFED

Greek Leaders And Allies OPERATIONS ON BALKAN BATTLEFRONTS LONDON, September 28. A mission representing the guerrilla army in Greece has been rebuffed by Greek and Allied leaders In Cairo. The mission, consisting of six guerrilla leaders, went to Cairo to consult King George of Greece, the Greek Government, and the Allied High Command on political issues. They urged that three members of the Greek underground movement should be included in the Greek Government, one of them as Minister of the Interior. They asked King George to undertake that he would not return to the Greek Throne till the people had decided by plebiscite whether they wanted the Monarchy restored. Their requests were refused. Correspondents in Cairo say it is difficult to estimate what effect the failure of the mission will have on future events in Greece and relation between Greece and the Allies. It is not known whether the guerrilla leaders’ demands reflect the views of a majority of the Royal Air Force planes from Middle East bases yesterday attacked an airfield in Crete. The previous night Wellingtons bombed the harbour at -Siros in the Aegean Sea. "• Enemy -planes and fighters yesterday attacked the islands of Kos and Leros, which are now in .British hands. J.wo were shot down. Three Middle East aircraft were lost. Battle For Split.

A communique from the Jugoslav Army of Liberation states that heavy fighting is continuing on the Split sector, specially near Sinj Drnis, where the German pressure has increased in the past 24 hours. -Street fighting is still proceeding in Susak. A German communique states that strong Partisan bands in north-eastern Italy and Dalmatia have been, encircled and are being wiped out. The communique claims that German troops yesterday stormed and captured Split. It is learned' in London that King Peter of Yugoslavia. accompanied by his staff, sailed from Britain recently for the Middle East. . ______
