STAR BOATING CLUB REPORT

“The club has now’ completed 77 years of usefulness to the youth of the city of Wellington, and during that period our members have been called upon on three occasions to serve their country during war,” states the annual report of the Star Boating Club. “It is interesting to. note that in the South African conflict 30 names appear on our roll of honour; in the Great War of 1914-18 140 names are recorded. In the present war no fewer than 150 members have been accepted for service in the armed forces and not one of the members medically examined was declined as unfit.” The report states that nine members of the club have been killed in action in the present war, two are missing on air operations." five are prisoners of war, two have been wounded, and three have been deeorated. “The Wellington Provincial Patriotic Society is still occupying, the upstairs portion of the clubhouse, except the dressing room, and they are using a partitioned off section of the ground floor,” the report adds. “In addition, they have recently erected a temporary building on the section- • near the Free Ambulance premises. The clubhouse is in- good repair and reflects on . the wisdom of previous committees in maintaining the building in good order, while material and labour were available. “The plant as a Whole has been maintained in good order, running repairs having beep, effected as necessary during the past season. The club’s best-and-best boats and racing oars have been cared for and placed out of commission. The practice sculls and oars requiring attention have been sent for repairs, thus con-serving,-stocks of this valuable equipment.”

The year closed- with a credit balance of £94/14/11.
