A livelier tempo has been given lo city recreational outlets for service people with the opening of the Glide Patriotic Skating Rink in Wellington on Saturday afternoon. Members of the foreps, including Merchant Navy men and girls belonging to the three services, soon took possession of the large indoor rink provided for them. Others filled the narrow railed-oif spaces to watch the passing Crowds spinning across the floor and gravitated toward the refreshment boom at frequent intervals, where W.W.S.A. volunteers worked hard to cope with the steady demand for cold drinks. The rink, which is also available for civilians on weekdays, will follow its inaugural weekend schedule by catering exclusively for the services during its Saturday and Sunday afternoon and evening sessions. , , Wider entertainment plans were also manifest in service club programmes, and hundreds of helpers again took their turn on volunteer concert and club duty to cater for the many guests who found the lounges and clubrooms convenient places for relaxing, meeting friends or answering letters.
