DAIRY FACTORY WORKERS’ AWARD

At the annual meeting in Carterton of the New Zealand Dairy Factories and Delated Trades Employees’ ' Industrial Union of Workers (Wellington branch) a resolution was adopted protesting against the rate of wages provided for iu the new award, which “on the minimum rate is only 2/- an hour, while labourers at the freezing works receive 2/7 an hour for a much longer season of employment.” Youths and females had been given no increase at all, the resolution stated, and as youths performed the same work'in cheese factories as adult workers, this was regarded as a grave anomaly. To grant a worker who worked on a statutory holiday only half rate in addition to ordinary rate, while a worker who did not work that day received a full day’s pay in addition to the ordinary rate, was beyond comprehension.
