SHORTAGE OF COAL
Denying a statement published on September 20 that coal deliveries were better than a week or a fortnight previously, the secretary, of Hie Wellington Coal Merchants aud Dealers’ Association, Mr. \V. J. Mountjoy, stated yesterday that, at present retailers in Wellington and the Hutt Valley had no coal: in fact, it was questionable whether there were three tons of household coal available between all the yards. \ The difficulty was caused by the fact that there were several ships held up at ports awaiting weather conditions to bring coal to Wellington, and it did not appear that the position would be relieved till after the weekend, when it was expected that some coal at least will be made available to retailers.
