Attitude Of Russian Church MOSCOW, September 18. “All persons betraying the Christian cause and embracing Fascism will be excommunicated. and clericals so guilty will be unfrocked.” This is one of the first pronouncements of the newly-tormed holy synod of the Russian Orthodox Church. ' Au appeal issued by the Council ot Bishops says: “By the efforts of Christians in all the Allied countries the longexpected second front will at last be established and will bring victory nearer at. this favourable moment when our own victorious Red Army is pushing the enemy from our land.” .. . The appeal urges Christians throughout the world to unite in the name ot Christ, and strain every nerve to preserve the sacred ideas of Christianity, which Hitler is treading under foot, lhe appeal also blesses “our brother Christians fighting in the Allied armies.’.’ The message is published in the Russian newspapers, together with a statement addressed to Marshal Stalin thanking him for the Government s support, ot the Orthodox Church.
ARCHBISHOP IN MOSCOW LONDON. September 19. The Archbishop of York has arrived in Moscow by air. He was welcomed by high dignitaries of the Russian Church.
