Pyjama Shortage
Sir,—In your issue of September 13 appears a lette.r over the nom de plume of “Retailer,” iu which is described an extraordinary complaint ou the part of the writer that, notwithstanding the fact that a manufacturer in England had cabled “offering some thousands of yards of pyjama cloth,” for which shipping could be arranged and for which the importing firm could have paid cash, "when application was made for the import licence it was refused by our New Zealand authorities.” On reading the letter I at once concluded there would be a prompt statement explaining the position, but so fat I have failed to see anj’ further reference to the matter beyond Mr. A. Mitchell's expression of amazement as appearing iu your issue of September 16, a feeling in which I certainly join, aud a facetious letter in.yours of September 18 which possibly “hits the nail on the head.” However, as I badly want to renew my stock of worn pyjamas and have no wish to have to come down to wearing my day shirt at night, or even going back to the days of the old-fashioned night-shirt, I hope something will be done to brins back supplies of good warm flannel such as I have had for my pyjamas for many years. I am. etc.LIVING IN HOPE. Lower Hutt, September 18.
