ARMY ALLOWANCES
Inspectors Appointed An announcement that he had recently appointed a qualified Army pay inspector and assistants was made 'by the Minister of Defence, Mr. Jones, when replying in the 1 House of Representatives yesterday to an urgent question by Mr. Lee (Democratic Labour, Grey Lynn) on behalf of Mr. Barnard (Democratic Labour, Napier). Mr. Lee had inquired whether instructions would be given for the prompt payment of allowances to the wives and dependants of soldiers.
Mr. Jones said the system in operation and the procedure laid down provided for prompt payment of dependants’ allowances. It was admitted that there were often grounds for complaints due to delay, and in order to improve further the standard of efficiency an inspection staff had been appointed. He bad issued specific instructions that this stall must pay particular attention to the matter raised by Mr. Lee.
