Darlan LONDON, December 3. Answering a question in the House of Commons about Admiral Darlan s declaration that he had assumed the responsibility of head of the Government in French North Africa, the Foreign Secretary, Mr. Eden, said that the British Government was in’ no way consulted about Darlan’s statement, and it did not consider itself in any way bound by it. • A Government statement about North Africa and the position of Darlan would be made in secret session shortly, he added. Asked whether any other Government had been consulted by Darlan, Mr. Eden said that as far as he knew the statement was on the inspiration of Da fl an himself. ' Darlan, in his proclamation, said he assumed the rights and responsibilities of the Government of the French Empire, and that he had constituted an Imperial Council which would represent France in the world.
