R.A.F. CONTINUES DAY OFFENSIVE

Bombers Attack Ruhr (British Official Wireless.) (Received July 19, 11.10 p.m.) RUGBY, July IS. The Royal Air Force continued its daylight offensive over Germany today when, for the fourth time iu the week, Lancaster bombers attacked objectives in the Ruhr. There was some opposition from enemy fighters, but none of our aircraft is missing. Later Hurricane bombers and Spitfires attacked an enemy convoy off Cherbourg peninsula. One supply ship was left listing and on lire and another supply ship aud two escorting ships were damaged. One of our aircraft is missing. An Admiralty communique states: ’■A FWI9O was destroyed yesterday afternoon by gunfire from a motor launch in the English Channel. Two launches were escorting a single merchant ship when they were attacked by four FWlOO’s. Four of the launch crew were wounded.” An Air Ministry communique states: “Aircraft of the Bomber Command continue to lay mines in enemy waters. Two aircraft are missing from these operations during recent nights.”
