CHIMNEY REPAIRS
Labour Now Arriving In Wellington Following tlie conference between the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, tlie mayor of Wellington, Mr. Hislop, and Government and city officials, more bricklayers have arrived in Wellington to repair chimneys damaged by earthquake. The workers reached Wellington at the weekend. IL is anticipated that by tomorrow the number of these tradesmen brought to Wellington from outside areas—as far away as Invercargill and Northland —will be IGO. There were over 100 men available in Wellington immediately after the earthquake, and with others since detailed to repair work, as by transfer from other corporation work, (lie total strength will be about the 300 considered necessary by the city engineer. More plumbers are needed. These may be released from work at camps and elsewhere by arrangements made through the Public Works Department. The Hutt Valley is also to have its repair staff considerably strengthened by men from other centres in both islands.
Three camps are being equipped in Wellington, at Wakefield Park, Duppa Street; at the Basin Reserve, and near the Rongotai tearooms. Some men have obtained board in private homes.
