RESERVIST JAILED
Would Fight Only In New Zealand A young man ..who said he would do anything in home defence was sent to prison for six weeks yesterday for failing to report’for military service. He was Richard George Smith, furrier, aged 22, and he appeared before Mr. Stout, S.M. in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington. 'Smith pleaded guilty, and Sub-Inspec-tor G. H. Lambert said defendant bad given himself uj> to the police the previous day. An appeal by him on the ground of conscientious objection had been dismissed. He' had stated that he would rather suffer imprisonment than serve overseas.
