He was Richard George Smith, furrier, aged 22, and he appeared before Mr. Stout, S.M. in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington. 'Smith pleaded guilty, and Sub-Inspec-tor G. H. Lambert said defendant bad given himself uj> to the police the previous day. An appeal by him on the ground of conscientious objection had been dismissed. He' had stated that he would rather suffer imprisonment than serve overseas.
