News And Notes From Town And Country Ilajul Spun Woollens. A spinning demonstration was an interesting feature at the last meeting of the year of the Lower Hutt branch of the W.D.E.U. Those participating were Mesdames H. B. Gordon, Patrick Marshall, Myles, Paul Gillingham and Miss Lucas, who carded the greasy wool and gave the demonstration. The resulting articles are forwarded to minesweepers and ships of the Mercantile Marine. A programme of violin and piano duets by Mesdames K. Caverhill and E. Rothwell followed. The meeting was presided over by Mrs. C. A. Stevenson.

Garden Party on Saturday. A garden party has been arranged in aid of funds for Air Force Relations and will be held this Saturday afternoon in the lovely grounds of Mrs. W. E. Herbert’s home, 186 The Terrace. The R.N.Z.A.F. band will be a special attraction and there will be a variety of stalls. Country produce, cakes, sweets and Christmas novelties will 'be on sale and donations of all kinds will be gratefully accepted.

Skull Caps and Pullovers. Miss Maddever presided over a wellattended meeting of the Belmont Women’s Institute when the annual report was presented, and a comprehensive survey of ' the recent council meeting was read by Mrs. A. Bennett. Skull caps and. pullovers for tbe Merchant Service Appeal were contributed along with goods and cash for the Leper Fund. The gardening circle and other members had spent an afternoon m Mrs. Hardwick-Smith’s garden, where they were entertained to afternoon tea. Mrs. Spencer gave a talk on the formation of an institute, .which brought forth many queries and showed the keen interest taken by members. Mrs. Spencer and others taking the group travel trip to Mount Cook were given best wishes for a happy holiday. St. Mark’s School Bazaar. , The annual bazaar of St. Marks Church School will be opened this afternoon at 3 o’clock by Mrs. Sprott, and will continue at night and on 'Thursday. The school children will provide an entertainment and there will be many well-tilled stalls. Proceeds of the bazaar will be used to provide drainage for the playground. Plimmerton Junior Bed Cross. A very successful shop day, arranged and staffed by the Junior Red Cross in Plimmerton, was held recently. The girls, under the supervision of Mrs. Boeket, had made many useful and pretty articles suitable for Christmas gifts, and these coupled with cakes and , sweets which were also for sale, muted | more than £B. which was an excellent i effort.
