GRAIL GARDEN PARTY

Archbishop O’Shea At Opening

Held in brilliant sunshine, the Christmas fair organized by members of the Ramahi groups of the Grail, was opened by His Grace, Archbishop O’Shea, in Lower Hutt on a recent "afternoon. Mrs. E. Cooper generously gave the beautiful grounds of her home in Woburn Road for the occasion, the gardens making an ideal setting. Large numbers of people were present and the thanks of girls of the Ramahi groups are extended to Mrs. Cooper for acting as hostess. The Rev. Dr. J. P. Cavanagh, Lower Hutt, introduced His Grace, Archbishop O’Shea, who formally opened the fair. His Grace drew attention to the need for increased interest on the part of women in the realm of Catholic action, and expressed himself as greatly pleased with the way in which they were shouldering tho extra responsibilities due to the absence of so many men on active service. Accompanying His Grace was Rev. Father J. I-leavey, administrator of St. Joseph’s parish. Among the large number of friends present were girls from the Sacred Heart Convent, Lower Hutt. Many attractive Christinas gifts made by the girls were displayed on the stalls and found a ready sale. Willing helpers'from the local Scouts, Guides and Cubs were on hand early helping to erect temporary stands aud awnings, and men from the Hibernian Society were on the gate.

A baby show brought many entrants, winners in the various sections being Michael Travers, Anne Harvey, Erin Kyan and Leo De Lacy.
