Idle Along Championship And Sanders Cup
Trial races to determine the Wellington representatives in the 1941-42 Sanders Cup and national Idle Along championship contests were sailed at the weekend, fi'he races for the Sanders Cup trials also count for the Campbell Cup for the Wellington provincial class championship. The Sanders Cup trials resulted:— First race: Delight (E. J. Galtland), 4.15.36, 1; Louie (iv. Jillian), -1.19.15, 2; Surora (D. McDonald), 4.24.18, 3. Second race: Delight, 1; Miss Josephine 2; Louie, 3; Kitty, 4; Aurora, 5. Third race j Louie, 1; Miss Josephine, 2; Delight, 3; Kitty, 4; Aurora, 5. The Idle Along trials resulted :—First race: Tornado (C. Stutter), 3.59.21, 1; Hutcliwilco (K. Stutter). 4.0.20, 2; Dora (I. Barber), 4.1.16, 3; Elaine (W. White), 4; Belvedere (A. W. Johnson), 5; Courier (R. Egley), 6; Altair ,(G. Spackman). 7; Vulcan (D. Trever), 8. Cavalier (M. Gestro), Spray (E. Hartley) and (O. Gestro) sailed the wrong course, and Kuna (F. Saunders) and San Toy (A. Wilson) did not finish. Second race: Cavalier,'l; Tornado, 2; Spray, 3; Elaine, 4; Courier, 5. Belvedere finished first but was disqualified for fouling a mark. Third race : Tornado, 1; Belvedere, 2; Cavalier, 3: Spray, 4; Elaine. 5.
EVANS BAY CLUB
The Evans Bay Yacht Club held races for Tauranga and Z class yachts over the weekend. The Tauranga class races resulted: — First race: Matchbox V W. Wagstaff), 1; Pup (C. Gibson), 2; Houdini (Cheeseman), 3; Falcon (F. Hargraves), 4; Doreen (B. Casey), 5; Zeta, 6; Apollo (P. Guiney), 7; Little Man (T. Petherick), 8; Zephyr (D, McLeod), 9. Second race: Matchbox, 1; Zeta, 2; Pup, 3; Doreen, 4; Houdini, 5; Zephyr, 6; Apollo, 7; Little Man, 8; Falcon, 9. Third race: Houdini, 1; Doreen, 2; Pup, 3; Zeta, 4; Falcon, 5,; Zephyr, 6. Matchbox broke a halyard and did not finish. Little Man was disqualified for a breach of the rules, and Apoilo start. The points us they now stand are:— Matchbox, 200; Houdini, 183; Pup, 166; Doreen, 139; Zeta, 135; Falcon, 93; Zephyr, 77; Apollo, 50; Little Man, 44. Z class results were: —First race: Manahau (P. Hartley), 1; Torment (W. Petherick), 2. Second race: Manahau (Petherick), 1; Torment (Hartley), 2. Hartley lost this race on account of bad spinnaker work in the second round.
PORT NICHOLSON CLUB
The first race of the season for the Carina Cup and the Harman Cup for A and B class keelers was held by the Royal Port Nicholsqn Yacht Club ou Saturday afternoon over a course from Clyde . Quay Wharf to Ngahauranga, thence across to Evans Bay and round Burnham buoy, and then back round Ngahauranga and home. There was a light northerly breeze, whiah increased during the afternoon, and conditions were so misty that the boats were obscured during parts of the race. The race between Sir James Elliott’s Whakarere and Mr. Cunningham's Atalstnta was very keenly eoutested. Whakarere arrived home first, with Atalanta ouly 10 seconds behind. Results were as follows: — Mandalay, 18nfin. handicap, finishing time sh. 7m. 50sec., corrected time 4.49.5, 1; Whakarere (Imin.), finishing time 4h. 55m. 50see., corrected time 4.54.50, 2; Wylo (16min.), finishing time sh. 14m. 55see., corrected time 4.58.55, 3; Atalanta (Imin.), finishing time 4h. 56m., corrected time 4.55, 4; Raukawa (17min.), finishing time sh. 34m. 15sec., corrected time 5.17.15, 5. Tui also started.
