DOMINION REPORT

League Of Mothers’ Work In Difficult Year The year had been difficult, stated the fifteenth annual report of the Dominion League of Mothers, presented recently, but it was believed that because of the careful guidance of the presidents, branch meetings had continued to fill that place in a woman’s life the league believed so necessary. These gatherings had achieved their object, namely, to give members something to help them maintain a happy home. It was believed that these hours would serve as an incentive to women, first of all in their home life, and secondly to spur them ou to necessary civic and religious work. Wartime had proved this point. Members were helping in every possible way with this important work, and it was believed they were a definite force for good in the community. In each province a special secretary had been appointed to deal with war work. More creches were started each year, and it was hoped that every branch would soon have a creche. The league has 100 branches and an enrolled membership of 8395. The Maori and scattered branches and unattached members were looked after by Mrs. S. B. Harris, Dunedin, and Miss Richmond kept in touch with lighthouse members. The magazine circulation showed a steady increase throughout the year, the present circulation being 2560 a month. The committee considered it .inadvisable to attempt organizing during wartime, said the report. It was hoped that provinces would be ready with definite plans for extending the scope of their activity when the world was once more at peace. During the year the Dominion president, Mrs. S. English, had attended executive meetings in Wellington, provincial meetings and had visited many branches. The report concluded by saying that to the New Year members looked with hope, realizing that through the individual much might be done.
