FINAL DAY AT RICCARTON

Yogi’s Chances In The Metropolitan

GOOD FIELDS ENGAGED

(By Telegraph—From St. Simon.)

CHRISTCHURCH, November 14. Considering the hard track conditions which have prevailed at. Riccarton since the Cup meeting opened last Saturday, the fields for the final day’s racing tomorrow have filled very well. The weather remains fine, and the going should again be firm and fast. The main event is the Metropolitan Handicap, run over a mile and a half. The field of 10 is considerably smaller than is usual for this race, which carries a prize of £lOOO, but the material is there for a good contest. Giadynev, run-ner-up in the New Zealand Cup, Wardress, third in the same race and winner of the Canterbury Cup, The Raker, winner of the Fendalton Handicap, and Yogi and Rakanui, who were only heads away from Wardress in the weight-for-age event run over the Metropolitan distance, are sufficient to ensure a highclass contest. Among the others are Trench Law, who ran an excellent race in the Fendalton , Handicap, finishing fourth, and Piastre, who was not far away from the placed horses in the New Zealand Cup. The pick of the handicap is Yogi, who ran Wardress and Rakanui to a close decision in the Canterbury Cup, and meets them on considerably better terms under the handicap scale tomorrow. He is to be ridden by D. Redstone, and if he reproduces "Wednesdays form he should be one of the best prospects. There are two other open events on the card, the Cressy Handicap, run over a mile, and the Members’ Handicap, run over seven furlongs. In the Cressy Handicap Siglow and Wild Talk, who have been racing consistently, will be in demand, while the promoted hack, Military Maid, will command respect after her all-the-way win in the Otaio Plate, for hacks, over a mile and a quarter, and carrying 9.2. This former North Islander has come solid with age, and is a free galloper who sould run a sound mile. Treasurer . will be making his fourth appearance at the meeting in this event. Nothing worked better . than he did before the meeting, but he has raced far below expectations. There is a strong field of sprinters carded for the Members’ Handicap, with the Stewards’ Handicap winner, Not Out, heading the weights with 9.3. He cannot be left out after his fine race in the Jockey Club Handicap. T, R. George holds a strong hand in this event with Duncannon, Circular Note and Pay Roll engaged, and among the lightweights, Eulogist Wild Fox, Egyptian Rose and Leighnor have all shown good form in previous starts. This is one of the mos. open events on tomorrow’s card. Betting will be win and place, and the following horses are likely to be supported : —
