JAPANESE SUBMARINE SUNK
TOKIO, October 3. The submarine 161 sank after a collision with surface craft during manoeuvres off Kyushu. The navy announced that some members of the crew were saved. Rescue efforts are proceeding. The 161 was 12 years old and of 1600 tons. She. carried a crew of 56.
