WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Training College Gold

Takes Lead

There were further surprises in the Wellington, Basketball Associations senior A championships competition on Saturday afternoon. Training College Gold played Kia Ora ami beat them in a game which was most interesting. T.C. Gold shot the first goal, and remained in the lead throughout the* game. Both teams were playing substitutes, Jean Willson (ex New Zealand representative) returning onee again to Kia Ora's aid. T.C. Gold were must more accurate in shooting, and although Kia Ora had more of the ball in the second half, their forwards could not shoot accurately enough to make up the leeway. Aspro sprang a surprise on Wellington East Old Girls by beating them by four goals. Aspro have done badly for the past two weeks, but certainly staged a come-back. If they continue in this manner they will upset the whole order, even though they can hardly now win themselves.

The positions of the teams are now: T.C. Gold (17), Island Bay (16), W.E. O.G. (15), Kia Ora (14). The only teams in the senior B competition who have a chance for the championship are T.C.O.G. (21) and Melrose (19), and they have not yet met in the second round, island Bay have been most disapointing for the last few Saturdays, and again they were not up to form, losing to Taupo by one goal. In the third grade, section 1, St. Annes retained their three-point lead with- an easy win over Aspro. Kirk's Shop came home by only one goal against Taupo to creep into second place. In section 2, Wesley changed places with Kia Ora bybeating them. In the third section there was no alteration, as Taupo and Zemba both won their games.
