ARMY MAY FIELD TEAM Wellington Rugby League competition matches on Saturday were plt-yed on grounds half flooded. The early match at Newtown Bark, Eastern Suburbs v. Miramar, was not played because bl the state of the ground. The competition will end with a play-off between Miramar and Petone South, who are the leaders of the championship competition, probably on August 16. Next Saturday the Possibles v. Probables match in preparation for the visit of'the Wellington representative team to Taranaki the following Saturday will be played. On the Saturday that Wellington is playing Taranaki at New Plymouth, a match between an Army team from Trentbam and a Wellington B team wTll be played if it can be arranged. These two matches will occupy the two Saturday afternoons between now ami August 16. „ , , , The matches on Saturday resulted as follows: — Petone North 11, Petone East 3. Scorers for Petone North, Kreyl (try). Beban (try and conversion), McGuire (try} ; scorer for Petone East. Whittington (try). Central 13, Randwick 3.—Scorers for Central, Scholes (try), Gill (two tries), Littler (two conversions) ; scorer for Randwick, Jones (try). Outstanding players for Central were V. Scott and McLauchlan, and for Randwiek, Ryan played a good game. Petone South 21, St. George 2.— Scorers for Petone South, J. Boswell (two tries), Winiata (two tries), Cleland (try), Solomon (try), Kuntz (try) ; scorer for St. George, Greenland (penalty goal). The best Petone South back was Winiata, but Solomon and O’Connor also played well, while' among the Petone South forwards, Cleland, Penman and K. Boswell were outstanding. The best St. George forwards .were Smith, Greenland, nnd Barrie, and the best backs Robertson and Cruickshank.
