ITALIAN PLIGHT Heavy Casualties

LONDON, April 28.

It is officially announced in Nairobi that the Imperial forces in Abyssinia have captured Dessie, where the Italians have been making a desperate stand. The Imperial forces marched into the town on Friday evening. Dessie was one of the last strong points of Italian resistance in Abyssinia.

It is pointed out that the Italians will'now either have to retreat east to French Somaliland or continue their flight along the road north of Dessie. Agency messages state that the Itali' ffns suffered many losses in the fighting around Dessie. The killed are set at 200. So far 600 prisoners have been taken and others are being rounded up. There are now only two major points of resistance for the Italians in Abyssinia, one being to the north-west of Dessie and the other south-west of Addis Ababa. An R.A.F. communique says bomba Were dropped on a hangar at Macaaca containing a number of enemy aircraft Fortifications and troops were bombed and machine-gunned at Chelga and Bahrdar, south of Lake Tana.
