NEW BRIGHTON
Amalgamation With Christchurch The Minister of Labour,'Mr. Webb, stated yesterday that consequent on the amalgamation of the borough of New Brighton with the city of Christchurch, it was necessary, in order to preserve the existing position in the New Brighton area in respect of the half-holiday, for provision to be made to give, effect to the understanding which was arrived at by the two local authorities concerned, and was brought to the notice of the Minister a short time ago. The amalgamation would take effect as from April 1; and regulations would accordingly be issued within the next few days to provide that the existing position in New Brighton under the Shops and Offices Act and the awards of the Court of Arbitration regarding the half-holiday could continue.
