STREET CLOSED
Extension Of Rongotai Flying Field DIVERSION OF VEHICLE AND FOOT TRAFFIC A statement that it had become necessary to close Kingsford Smith Street for two reasons, one being to provide for greater security for the buildings at the Air Force Station at Rongotai, and the other to enable the flying field to be extended westward to the eastern wall of the main exhibition buildings, was made last night by the Minister of Defence, Mr. Jones. "The closing of Kingsford Smith Street will entail a diversion of traffic to Opepu Road,” said Mr. Jones, “but arrangements have been made to provide for pedestrian traffic by footway access to Broadway. The footpath will be along the eastern boundary of the aerodrome and at the rear of the De Havilland buildings via the golf links. It will be approximately three-eighths of a mile shorter than the old route to Coutts Street. “The extension of the flying field is being commenced immediately.”
