GOOD ANGLING YEAR

Relaxation Sought From Wartime Worries BRIGHT PROSPECTS FOR SHOOTING SEASON The opinion that tbe 1940-41 fishing season, now drawing to a close, has been one of the best for many years was expressed yesterday by tbe secretary of the Wellington Acclimatiza lion Society, Mr. E. J. U. Wifiin. He said that, good angling had been general, and he had not met an angler this season who was dissatisfied with tbe sport. He had heard of a number of good fish being taken, of which the best was a 12-pound trout reported to have been taken in the Hutt River near Melling.

Tn spite of the war, the interest taken in the sport was well maintained. Many people seemed to be turning to it more than ever in search of relaxation from the work and worries of wartime life. He did not think many men actually in the forces had been able to get much fishing, as the amount of leave did not give them sufficient leisure.

Prospects for the coming shooting season were equally good. Game was plentiful, especially duck, and the society itself had had an excellent season at its Paraparaumu game farm. Here a large supply of duck and pheasant was being reared for liberation. If the weather remained fine, and no unexpected difficulties arose, it was probable that the society would rear about 800 pheasants and 180 mallard duck this year, This would be the best it had yet achieved. Plans for the allocation of pheasants for liberation would probably be laid before the next meeting of the society’s council.
