MINISTERIAL. The (Hon. R. Semple, Minister of National Service, will return to Wellington today from the South Island. The Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer, Minister of Health, left Wellington for Nelson last night. The Hon. D. G. Sullivan, Minister of Industries and Commerce, left Wellington last night for Christchurch. The Hou. J. G. Barclay, Minister of Agriculture, is visiting the north. He expects to return to Wellington on Tuesday. Mr. J. Cable left for Nelson by tbe Arahura last night. Mr. R. M. Macfarlane, M.P., mayor of Christchurch, returned south last night. Mr. T. Jordan, president of the Municipal Association and mayor of Masterton, left for Nelson last night. The Rev. J. M. Thomson, of Kennington, has - been elected moderator of tbe Southland Presbytery. Mr. J. W. Heenan, Under-Secretary of the Department of Internal Affairs, left for Nelson last night. Tbe mayor of Wellington, Mr. Hislop, has returned to Wellington after attending the Municipal Association Conference.

Wing Commander 11. C. Bevan, Military Secretary to the Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall, left for the South Island last night. Mr. J. W. Card, mayor of Featherston, who has been attending the municipal conference at Auckland, will return to Featherston today. Mr. K. E. Luke, Wellington, city engineer, and Mr. C. A. Woolley, superintendent of the Wellington Fire Brigade, have returned from Auckland. The Minister of Health, Mr. Nordmeyer, and the Director of the Hospitals Division of the Health Department, Dr. R. A. Shore, left for Nelson last night. Mr. F. E. Sutton, chairman of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, has announced his intention of standing for re-electiou to the mayoralty of Lyttelton and also for a seat on I Lie harbour board.

J. C. Williamson’s Gilbert and Sullivan Comic Opera Company left Wellington for the south by last night’s steamer express. The company’s Christchurch season will open this afternoon.

Mr. T. H. Wilson, a pioneer in the Portland cement industry in New Zealand, has retired after 53 years’ continuous service with Wilsons (N.Z.) Portland Cement, Ltd. For the past 30 years Mr. Wilson hirs held the position. of works manager, first at Warkworth and later at Portland. Mr. Henri Penn, the Melbourne pianist, who is touring New Zealand with the Oscar Natzke-Kenneth Neale concert company, has been engaged by the Australian Broadcasting Commission as accompanist to the distinguished violinist Josef Szigeti, who is due to arrive in Australia from America next mouth. There is no advice yet as to whether Szigeti will visit New Zealand.
