PRESIDENT RETIRES
Presentation And Welcome
At Lyceum Club
A gathering of members was held in the Lyceum Club this week for the threefold purpose of welcoming the newly-elected president, Mrs. David Herbert, making acknowledgment to Mrs. J. C. Andersen, retiring president, of her past services, and welcoming new members.
Miss Ahern, as senior vice-president, spoke eulogistically of Mrs. Andersen’s work and presented her with a shoul-der-spray and sheaf of flowers. Later, Miss Old, on behalf of Mrs. Clark, an ex-president, and the older members, presented a bouquet to Mrs. Andersen. Mrs. Andersen spoke of her regard for the club and the pleasure she always had in furthering its interests. The Mother Lyceum Club, from which had sprung hundreds of clubs all over the world,-was still carrying on in spite of.bombs. Only latterly, said Mrs. Andersen, a letter had been received from that club in London telling how they were still in their clubrooms, which were being used more than ever. After welcoming the new members, Mrs. Andersen extended the good wishes of members to Mrs. Herbert, and spoke of her excellent past services to the club. *
Mrs. Herbert replied and then presented tiie retiring president, Mrs. Andersen, with a morocco bag and but-terfly-wings brooch, the gift of club members.
Miss Fuller sang a bracket of Maori songs, accompanied by Mrs. Donelly.
The drama circle produced «- humorous play, “Cottage to Lot,” those taking part being Miss Keasberry, Mrs. MacDonald, Miss Ml E. Ahern, Mrs. Von Haast, Mrs. White and Mrs. Wilson. The leaders of the various circles spoke of the activities of their groups and outlined plans for the year.
