At present a normally good seasonal demand exists for autumn sowing but there is no- buying for export or against possibility of export later on. It is probable that the present situation will remain more or less unchanged till after Easter, from when on the outlook is uncertain as it will depend entirely on what shipping is available for general cargoes. A steady flow of white clover is maintained. Samples vary widely and yields have also shown marked differences. Tlie price for good seed is from 1/9 to 2/- per lb- but sales down teas low as 10d. for inferior quality have been made. ' Ryegrass remains steady at about a/o to 4/- for both perennial and Italian. The southern crop is beginning to come in and promises well. indicated price for southern seed which is ;>/- f.o.b. is about a shilling below the local price. It is likely that When the southern seed comes on to the market in any quantity the local market will suffer. Not a great amount of cocksfoot is coming in from Banks Peninsula and the values remain at up to 1/- for good seed. Chaff has been in. slightlv better demand and the price is now £3/l;>/-. on trucks. Peas are slightly weaker because ot the increasingly obscure shipping position. Best No. 1 partridge are worth up t<< 6/-. The recent gale has done a good deal of damage to peas and many growers have found that large portions of their crop have disappeared.
