BEEF PRICES HARDEN

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, March 5. There was another heavy yarding of fat sheep at the Burnside stock sale today, 3074 being penned, including several trucks of prime heavy wethers. The bulk of the yarding, however, was ewes. With restricted buying and an over-stipply prices were back by 1/- to 1/6 a head on all grades of ewes, wethers- suffering to the extent of 1/- a head. Extra prime wethers made to 20/0, prime 24/1) to 27/-, medium 21/- to .22/-, light to 20/-: extra prime heavy ewes to 17/-, prime 14/- to 15/6, export ewes 10/- to 14/-. A yarding of 1347 fat lambs Included several pens of heavy weights. Because of restricted killings through shortage of water at the works light and unfinished lambs were neglected. Extra prime heavy lambs made to 33/0, prime heavy to 20/3, medium 20/- to 22/-, and light 16/- to 18/-. In the fat cattle section 224 head were penned. The quality was on a par with last week’s yarding. The sale opened with prices firm to 10/- a head in advance of last week’s rates, and the concluding race showed a further hardening tendency. ' A small yarding of store cattle was forward. with 1 several pens of inferior quality steers and heifers. There were only two pens of three-year-old bullocks, which made up to £lO. Two year and a halt steers made to £io/10/-, and two-joar heifers £3/10/- to £4. A yarding of 220 fat pigs contained a fair proportion of porkers, prices being in buyers’ favour to the extent of o/a head, compared.with the previous week s rates. Best baconers made to £o/4/-, prime medium £4/5/- to porkers to £3/14/-, light £2/10/- to £- 13 An average yarding of 82 store pigs again met a dull sale, prices showing a further easing. Best suckers made 10/- to 17/-, and slips 20/- to 26/-.
