BOWLING FOURS
Champion Of Champions Tournament HIGH WIND MARS PLAY Twenty clubs competed in the Wellington Bowling Centre’s champion of champions fours tournament on the Wellington Bowling Club’s green yesterday. Conditions during the morning were normal, but a gusty northerly wind marred play in ,the afternoon, when judgment of green and strength was largely a matter of guesswork. The tournament was efficiently conducted by Mr. A. F. Spiller, who was assisted by officials of the Wellington Bowling Club. The semifinals will start at 9.30 a.m. today, and the final will be played this afternoon. , Following are the results of yesterday s First round: Victoria (G. Clark, J. Martin, J. Corkin, s.) 21, beat Central (Hicks, Goodall, Handcock, Palmer, s.) 10; Thorndon (Brace, White, Gillespie, Perry, s.) 23, beat Seatoun (Cooper, Henry, Usher, Shennan s.) 14; Lyall Bay (Marshall, Hale, Langden, Conder, s.) 28, beat Porirua (McKay, Philip, Kennedy, Tough, s.) 14. _ - Second round: Victoria 35, beat Woburn 13; Lyall Bay 31, beat Thorndon 10; Wellington (E. Smith, P. Ellerm, J. H. Newson, J. London, s.) 18, beat Keiburn (Dick, Hunter, Hay-Mackenzie, Smith, s.) 17; Newtown won by default from Otaki Railway ; Eastbourne (HurstBarton, Meo, Hall, Bishop, s.) 28, beat Upper Hutt (Dalton, Brown, Quinn, Rendle, s.) 12; Petone (Devine, Morris, Melhuish, Hunter, s.) 23, beat Khandallah (Hilston, Burrell. In the semifinals at 9.30 this morning, Petone will meet Hataitai, and Victoria will engage Newtown.
