E.S.U. Bridge Drive For Carnival Funds
The six queens in the Victory Carnival were present at the patriotic bridge drive organized for yesterday afternoon and evening by members of the English Speaking Union in Wellington. The event was most successful and the funds of each queen should benefit considerably. Many who could not attend sent donations. Mrs K Preston, ’chairman of the women’s committee, Introduced the queens to the guests. Mrs. M. G. Phelan was hostess and her small granddaughter, Ann Elizabeth Phelan, delighted everyone by singing There II Always be an England.” Tea was served during an interval m play. There were nearly 100 players, bridge and mah jongg being popular.
